PSY5244 Unit 9 Assignment: Theoretical Comparisons
Theoretical Comparisons
A graphic organizer is a visual construct that organizes information into a structure that helps you understand complex information. The theories related to play therapy can be viewed in a graphic display that allows for comparison, contrast, and analysis of their details in juxtaposition with one another. The graphic organizer for this assignment, the Theory Organizer [DOC], includes five play therapy theories along the top row. To complete this assignment:

- Analyze each of the five theories listed in the Theory Organizer.
- Address, for each theory, each comparison item found in the first column by filling in the corresponding cell in the column under the theory.
- Use significant phrases or bullet points to highlight the important features.
- Make your entries brief enough to allow quick comparison of the theories but detailed enough to clearly distinguish between them.
To conceptualize while using a theory, consider hypothesizing how children’s problems could develop, using terms and concepts from that theory. For example, if I am hypothesizing about why Janie is throwing giant tantrums about brushing her teeth at night, I could describe that behavior and use a theory to explain it.
You will share your Theory Organizer for your chosen theories in a later discussion. Your Theory Organizer will also be used in the next course in the play therapy certificate program where it will include additional theories for comparison. You can use it as a reference for your ongoing play therapy learning.
Refer to the Theoretical Comparisons Scoring Guide for specific details on how this assignment will be evaluated. Contact your instructor with questions.
