(Chap11, PSDP). Essentially deliberative discussions help a group focus and talk through an issue as opposed to talking about an issue. That is, all sides are represented in the initial discussion. Here an understanding of the audience is of central importance: Why do they think as they do, How do their emotions affect the issue, and finally, beliefs in their widest sense from culture and religion through generation and mass media. Each of you has lived through a half dozen or more of these arguments in the last year. Do not feel you must speak to any of these issues. There is lots of the world we don’t know as a group, you can speak to these things.
