Choose a topic, from your textbook, relevant to Personality Psychology (if it is not in your textbook make sure to get instructor approval, early)

In 2,000-2,500-words develop a position paper in which you:

  1. Relate your chosen topic to personality development
  2. You must have a well-developed thesis and strong argumentation to support your thesis.
  3. Your paper should be steeped in research with little filler or non-supported conclusions.
  4. Use of first person is not allowed.
  5. Your paper must conform to APA writing standards including the use of APA formatted in-text citations from research and credible sources on the Internet to support your position.
  6. Your paper must include 7-10 scholarly sources. Your text, about.com, and Wikipedia are not considered scholarly sources.

Thesis Statement: A level of self-awareness can be achieved when one understands, through humanistic perspectives, how their personality develops resulting in feelings of fulfillment in their personal, social, and professional life.

1st piece of research That Supports this Main Point (citation) -Nature and nurture factors play a role in the development of one’s personality. The question is, which factor is the more dominant one?
How does this article support this main point (key ideas)-The biological constitution of an individual can effect personality traits, especially when there is a deficiency. The end result is one’s traits being unconsciously influenced without one being aware.

2nd piece of research That Supports this Main Point (citation)-The environmental surroundings of an indivdual can influence and shape one’s personality.
How does this article support this main point (key ideas)-the outcome of these factors is an inner view of one’s self, and a belief of how others perceive them.
2nd Main Point: That Serves to Prove Your Thesis: Progression of Personality
1st piece of research That Supports this Main Point (citation)-Through different theories, the progression of personality in an individual can be tracked.
How does this article support this main point (key ideas)- One such theory used in the understanding of how one’s personality is developed, is the theory of Maslow’s hierarchy.

2nd piece of research That Supports this Main Point (citation)-As an individual progresses through each stage, they can find their source of motivation through their needs they are experiencing at that time.
How does this article support this main point (key ideas)-As an individual progresses, a level of maturity is experienced.
3rd Main Point that Serves to Prove your Thesis- Person-Centered Theory
1st piece of research That Supports this Main Point (citation)- The main parts of person centered theory are self-concept, and positivity that add to individuality, and growth.
How does this article support this main point (key ideas)-Through person-centered way, an exclusive approach to personality and personal relationships, has found its way into analysis, counseling, education, and organizations.

2nd piece of research That Supports this Main Point (citation)-Person-Centered Therapists help individuals gain self-understanding and self-acceptance through teaching unnderstanding, warmth, and a faith that no matter what an individual says or does, they are a valuable person.
How does this article support this main point (key ideas)-Person-Centered Theory is equal to person-centered way therapy condition and other aplications containing a hypothesis of personality, interpersonal family members, learning, and other helping occupations.
Conclusion What Have You found in your research and how does this apply to your thesis:
Maslow’s theories on personality developmental pychology, focuses on the phases of growth in individuals. He explained personal motivation phases such as, protection, belongingness, self-actualization, and self-transcendence. Rogers’ self concept theory focuses on the taits of ‘I’ or ‘me’ and the ‘I’ or ‘me’ as perceived by others (Rogers, 1959).
